FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS The part is brought into the simulation mode and meshing is done. The customer inputs are followed and the various boundary conditions are applied to the working conditions that the component might face in a real life cycle. Once the necessary boundary conditions are applied, solving and post processing are completed. The results are studied and discussed with the customer and suitable modifications are made to the model and corresponding changes are made to the drawing as well.
Preprocessing: Define key points/lines/areas/volumes, define element type and material/geometric properties, mesh lines/areas/volumes as required. The amount of detail required will depend on the dimensionality of the analysis (i.e. 2D, axis-symmetric, and 3D).
Solution: Assigning loads, constraints and solving; specifying the loads (points or pressure), constraints (transactional and rotational) and finally solving the resulting set of equations.
Post Processing: The following results can be viewed: List of nodal displacements, element forces and moments, deflection plots, stress contour diagrams.
